How does the recording process work?
Having interviewed hundreds of people over the course of my career from prime ministers to comedians and everyone in between, I have gained extensive experience in asking questions, having meaningful conversations and helping people feel comfortable in front of a microphone.
As this is a very personal endeavour, I start by having a conversation with you about who you want to record and what stories, and memories, you’d like to capture. I will take into account any logistics that we need to keep in mind and determine where the best place is to do the recording (at home, in a studio etc). Ideally, recording is done in person - but I can arrange to record remotely if necessary.
After our conversation, I will email you some questions to answer about the person being recorded and the stories you’d like to capture - this will ensure that I ask the right questions and record the memories that mean the most to you - and them.
The set up is simple and I bring all the recording equipment.
I will chat to the person being recorded before we start - to explain the process, address any of their concerns and put them at ease. There is no way they can get it wrong - as anything that is mixed up or repeated can easily be edited later.
With empathy, humour and warmth I encourage people to open up about themselves in a very conversational way.
I then take the recording away and edit it - totally removing myself from the audio. You will only have the voice of your loved one telling their story in their words.
Any special or significant music and sounds can be added to allow your stories to really come alive.
Once complete I will give you a hard drive with your story on and also transfer it digitally to you.
My priority is to make you as comfortable as possible, while producing the highest quality recording.
